The History

Some ten families residing in the region of Reduit, Mt Ory, Telfair, Camp La Serpe and Bois Chéri Moka got converted to our lord Jesus Christ at the Assembly of God of St-Pierre during the 1980’s and used to worship the Lord there. Small cell meetings and evangelistic meetings used to be held in these regions as well. However owing to the increase in the number of souls in these regions and the distance involved, it was decided by the Pastor in charge, Willy Christome in the early year 1991 to open a church in Moka. Hence in April 1991 we rented a small building, situated near the pharmacy shop at Moka.
The first meeting was held on Sunday 14 April 1991. At that time various pastors and preachers were called upon by Pastor Willy Christome to give a helpful hand. By September 1991, Brother Santaram Nursimulu, a member of the Assembly of God of St-Pierre, who used to preach in the Assembly of God of Circonstance, was called upon by Pastor Willy Christome to minister to the Moka Church.
The building got damaged by various cyclones and it was practically inconvenient to use that building as a place of worship. Consequently in October 1997 we moved to a sophisticated concrete building until March 2002. In the mean time Pastor Willy Christome told us to look for a plot of land to be purchased. We prayed for that project and God answered our prayer. Glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. In April 2002 God did a miracle in Moka. We succeeded in purchasing a plot of land situated at Camp Samy Moka. The church vision afterward was to collect sufficient funds for the construction of the Church. Owing to the high cost of rent of the concrete storey building, we asked God to shift us to another place. Instantly a Christian family residing in the city of Telfair, was touched by the grace of God and wholeheartedly offered a place to the church at their residence for worshipping purposes.
During the years 2002-2005 the members of the Moka church with poor income earnings succeeded in collecting sufficient funds in terms of offerings and donations-Glory to Jesus. The other churches namely St-Pierre, Q-Militaire, Dagotière and Côte-D’or also contributed to the project. Many other churches and individuals as well offered their contributions. A special thanks goes to brother L.Blackburn, President of the Assembly of God of Mauritius and his church who made an enormous contribution to Moka church in the purchase of land and in the construction field.
It had not been an easy task for us to obtain our Building Permit from the relevant authority. After nearly 2 years attempts with the authorised institution, we succeeded by the grace of God in obtaining our Building Permit in August 2005.
The construction of the church started in September 2005 and was completed in February 2006. By the grace of God the contractor undertaking the construction works is a brother in Christ named Rajiv Dalaya and is also a preacher. He and his team undertook the works at a very low cost. We are very thankful to him and his team.
We are thankful to every member of the 5 churches in the regions of Moka who has worked day and night at times.
The inauguration ceremony for the new place of worship was held on Sunday 26 March 2006 at 2.30 p.m.
