The History

The Assembly of God of Dagotière has a wonderful history. Who would have thought that a church could start from a funeral ceremony. The ways of God are mysterious. It was in October 1978, at brother Madev RAMA’s place for  the funeral ceremony of his father that for the first time the Gospel has been preached in Dagotière.

The Pastor BlackburnPresident of the Assembly of God of Mauritius, Pastor Blackburn, preached the word of God on that day. The Holy Spirit touched the heart of many people. On the same day a prayer meeting was held at night and many people received Jesus as their saviour. Four persons including brother Madev RAMA decided to rent a building from Mr Hustabeer to conduct prayer meetings. At the first instance, brother Muslaya helped brother Samputh to build the church and afterwards brother Samputh pursued the work.

Many people joined the church. Four years later brother Samputh took charge of the Assembly of Henrietta. Pastor Blackburn then asked Brother Willy Christome to take charge of the church. Brother Rajen Mootoosamy, a young preacher was put in charge of the assembly. He worked there for 5 years. After his departure for Italy, other pastors gave a helpful hand to the church. This continues until March 1995 when pastor Vasou Nursimulu was asked by Pastor Willy christome to take charge of the church. During this time the church moved in another building just opposite the existing one in the house of Mr. Seethiah.

In 2001, after having purchased a plot of land, a new church was finally built with the help of the brothers under the supervision of brother Rajiv Dalayya. It was on the 22nd of October 2001 that the church was inaugurated.
The church has now about a hundred members who come from the regions of Valetta, Lower Dagotiere, Alma and NHDC complex of Dagotiere. Our vision is to share the Gospel in all these villages so that the people can experience the real joy and peace which come from the Gospel. This work is done by a dynamic team at the church in Dagotiere under the supervision of Pastor Willy Christome who is responsible for the Moka region.
