History of Côte D'or Assembly of God

The churches in the region of   Moka, started as from a home cell in the village of Cote D’ or (situated at about three kilometers from Saint Pierre) as mentioned earlier.

 The Village

Cote D’or was one among the residential areas for employees of the Highlands Sugar Estate. The houses started to show signs of weaknesses by the end of 1980. Hence, the S.I.L.W.F (an organization responsible for the welfare of the employees of the Sugar Industry in Mauritius) decided to build some new houses for accommodating the villagers.
The population of Cote D’ or was around four hundred people as at 1999. The old houses were pulled down. Some of the inhabitants shifted into the newly built houses while others preferred to leave the village and build their own houses elsewhere. This resulted in a decrease in the population of Cote D’ or which is actually about three hundred people.

Church growth

House meetings continued in the village of Cote D’ or even after the opening of a church in Saint Pierre. A brother put his house at the disposal of the church in 1988 and meetings were held thrice weekly. In spite of heavy persecutions, many inhabitants witnessed the blessings of the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Other newly converted Christians put their houses at the disposal of the church for conducting meetings .This went on up to 1985, when a sister donated a plot of land for the construction of a place of worship. The construction was a subject of great joy for all the Christians of the village who gave the best of themselves for its achievement. This worship place was inaugurated on the 25th August 1986.
Evangelical campaigns were organized for spreading the Good News of the Lord to other inhabitants of the village. More than 20% of the population is today worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. We glorify Him for his wonders.

Pastor Willy J. Christome has a team collaborating with him, among whom:
Four Song leaders
Three Children School teachers
Ten musicians
Series of meetings for teaching the Christians are held every two months so as to help the latter to grow.

Forthcoming projects

The church is looking forward to make the acquisition of a building adjacent to the actual one. All legal documents are on the verge of being finalized in the coming days. May the Lord be blessed for this achievement.
New housing complexes will be built in the near future at Cote D’ or. Therefore evangelical campaigns would have to be organized for reaching out the new inhabitants. We are sure you would help us by your prayers. God bless you abundantly!!!!
